Enjoy relaxing on Four Winds Lake as you learn the ins and out of canoeing. Paddle with a partner while you learn different strokes and how to maneuver a canoe. Learn to extract DNA from fruit, find and learn about finger prints, learn how to find a suspect’s height just from their footprint! Clues may require you to use your canoeing skills or hunt along the trails of camp. You never know where they will be! You'll also get to see a demonstration by the local K-9 unit! Share your findings with the whole camp at the final campfire. Girls will work toward their Detective badge.

CSA Opportunities

Camp Whip Poor Will | Morrow, OH

Junior Counselor 
Grades 12
3 day | 6/02 - 6/04
Girl who have completed both CIT I and II programs can apply to be a Junior Counselor. This is an internship opportunity for girls to receive direct mentorship from the camp staff and can opt to shadow program specialists. Girls must participate in an application and interview process and be selected for the positions. Junior Counselors will attend a three-day pre-camp training June 2 - 4, 2018 at Camp Whip Poor Will. Junior counselors must intern a minimum of 2 weeks, one at Camp Whip Poor Will and one at Camp Libbey but may then choose additional weeks. Junior counselors may also intern during Troop Adventure Camp at Camp Libbey to gain new skills. Participants will go home over the weekends between internship weeks. Prerequisite: CIT I and II, Junior Counselor application, references, and interview. Follow the registration process then contact Elizabeth Rogers at elizabethrogers@gswo.org or call 567.225.3524 for an application and to set up an interview. If not selected as a Junior Counselor, you will be refunded in full.

It’s all about the equipment -- ropes, helmet, harness, and hardware. You’ll become the master of all of them! You’ll climb, rappel, and traverse sky-high elements on Camp Whip Poor Wills brand new high challenge course and experience the zip line. But that’s only half the fun! Head out of camp for an overnight camp experience and master another climbing challenge. When you need a break from the heights, choose other camp activities like swimming, archery, and more!

The Smokey Mountain Llama Trek

Explore the beauty of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the most visited national park in America. Spend the week away from Camp Whip Poor Will camping in Tennessee where you wil visit some of the most iconic sites the Smokies have to offer. This three-week opportunity is for the aspiring camp counselor. CIT II participants will spend nights in their own unit and receive ongoing supervision and leadership guidance from the CIT Director while learning the skills needed to be an outstanding camp counselor during the day. CIT II‘s will experience the challenges and rewards of working with younger girls through training that includes application of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, exploring the various leadership styles, learning positive behavior techniques, age and social characteristics, and resident camp skills. Participants will have an opportunity to observe unit and program staff, evaluate experiences, and receive guidance from the CIT Director as they assist in units, building up to spending an entire day with their assigned unit. Prerequisite: CIT I. Girls will earn their CIT II pin. Girls will go home the weekends between their three weeks.

You’ll get to design and paint an aircraft, take flight ground school, meet experts in the aviation field, and so much more. Into the Woods: Hocking Hills

To the wilderness and back again! Take your camping to the next level on a backpacking trip to the Hocking Hills. Girls will spend their first day at Camp Whip Poor Will gathering gear and preparing for their trip. Then head to Southeast Ohio and spend three days and two nights on the trail.
