On July 22, 2017, Girl Scouts from across western Ohio took over the
Newport Southbank Bridge to "Bridge to the Future" for an
inaugural, councilwide “bridging” ceremony. Close to 300 Girl Scouts,
their families, and Girl Scout alums walked symbolically from Kentucky
across the Purple People Bridge into Cincinnati, embodying a tradition
that marks a Girl Scout’s advancement to a new level—from Daisies to
Brownies, to Juniors and eventually to Ambassadors.
"Troops from Ohio and Kentucky have been using the Purple People Bridge for their personal bridging ceremonies for decades, but this was the first year that girls from across the region came together for one massive bridging event," said Roni Luckenbill, CEO of Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.
The bridge walking ceremony culminated in a celebration at Sawyer Point where girls and their families enjoyed live music, food trucks, and community partners offering hands-on activities.
The next councilwide Bridge to the Future event is scheduled for July 28, 2018.
