Igniting the Promise

In spring, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio hosts regional Camp Days to introduce girls to camp. We partner with schools across the Cincinnati, Dayton, Lima, and Toledo regions to take girls to camp and give them a day full of outdoor fun and adventure!

On Monday, March 4, girls in the Cincinnati area enjoyed their annual Camp Day. Guided by GSWO staff, girls experienced a sampler of camp activities, including slingshots, hiking, crafts, and playing on the natural playground!

After Camp Day, a mother reached out to share her appreciation for her daughter’s experience:

"I just wanted to thank everyone for looking out for my baby girl […] yesterday. She really enjoyed herself and it means a lot to be able to send my child with people who will keep her safe and return her safely. It took a load off of me knowing that she was in good hands. For that, I am very grateful for all of the work you guys do with her. ❤️"

Your support helps girls have a successful camp experience to foster their appreciation for the outdoors and develop confidence from trying new things.

During spring break, girls join Girl Scouts at Spring Break Day Camp. Each year, up to 700 girls have their first Girl Scout experience at Spring Break Day Camp, where they explore outdoors and try new activities.

Girls participate in themed activities at the 12 camps held across the council. Thanks to you, girls learn to build a fire, tie-dye a t-shirt, engage in teamwork through relay races, meet new critters, rock climb, and create through STEM projects. These girls return to school with an appreciation for the outdoors, new skills, and newfound confidence.

But Spring Break Day Camp is just the beginning! On the last day of camp, caregivers are invited to a closing program to learn what their girls have been doing and get more information on Girl Scout opportunities. Many of our spring breakers continue their Girl Scout journey by signing up for summer camp or joining a troop. One mom shared that her daughter enjoyed day camp so much that she immediately looked into Girl Scout summer camp options for her.

Your support brings the Girl Scout experience and a love of the outdoors to a new generation of adventurers. Thank you!

The Greater Toledo Community Foundation (GTCF) has been a long-time supporter of GSWO. GTCF has primarily supported GSWO to ensure that every girl in every neighborhood has a robust Girl Scout experience by supporting Girl Scouts for Every Girl (GSEG).

  1. Hiring community members to serve as Community Troop Organizers, who form troops from girls who participated in six-week Girl Scout experiences, called series. These community members serve as the troop leader while recruiting & training community volunteers to continue leading the troop.
  2. Help girls from direct delivery and series attend Girl Scout events with local partners at no cost and with provided transportation.

GSWO is appreciative of GTCF's support for girls in underrepresented communities, allowing us to provide every girl with a robust Girl Scout experience.
