G.I.R.L. at Work

How many times have you been asked, What do you want to do when you grow up?

If you don’t have an answer, or you know where you want to go, but not how to get there, then G.I.R.L. at Work may be for you!

Girls in grades 9-12 are invited to join a new program designed exclusively for girls like you. Beginning in January, members of G.I.R.L. at Work will meet once a month. Together you will:

  • Explore career goals & educational paths
  • Make connections with supportive professional women in the community
  • Develop the skills, attitudes and habits necessary for professional success
  • Build Girl Scout* sisterhood along the way

G.I.R.L. at Work provides the tools you need to help you reach your goals—whatever those may be!

*Girl Scout membership required; all girls are welcome, even if not previously a Girl Scout.

Applications are due by December 31, 2019. All registrants will be contacted by January 15, 2020 via the email address provided on your application.

$25 registration fee is due upon acceptance.

Once accepted, you’ll begin receiving a monthly newsletter with tips, resources, simple tasks and optional activities to help you begin setting goals and creating your path as a G.I.R.L. at Work.

Get Connected! Build your network by meeting women in the community who have expertise in a variety of topics. Gather their wisdom and advice as you approach the next step in your journey, whether that’s college, joining the workforce, building a business of your own, joining the military or wherever your path leads you.

Dollars & Sense—Money is a tough topic for a lot of people, but not for a G.I.R.L. at Work! We’re bringing in the experts to build your confidence in finances. We’ll talk credit scores, cost of living comparisons, and debt. We’ll explore budgeting tools and work with experts to learn how to negotiate pay and find ways to invest in yourself, whether that’s education, your business or your dreams.

Career Pathways—So maybe you don’t quite have it all figured out yet; that’s totally ok! As a G.I.R.L. at Work, you’ll explore a variety of options to find the right path for you. Whether you head to a university, jump into the workforce or join the military, we’ll connect you with experts who can help you get to where you want to go.  While exploring some education and pathway opportunities, you’ll also hear about how to navigate financing your education.

Build Your Brand—Learn tips for putting your best foot forward by identifying your personal brand. Use these tips to showcase your authentic self in applications, interviews and networking opportunities. Connect with an expert on ways to present your authentic self while remaining professional, both in person and in your social media presence.  We’ll then consider ways to ensure you find the school and work environments that best fits you.

Tools of the Trade—Whether you’re trying to land an internship, your dream job—or any job—having the right tools is key to your success. In this session, we’ll work with experts to build your resume, gain interview skills and explore other tools you’ll use throughout college and/or your career. This will also be a great opportunity to continue building networking skills and expanding your network.

G.I.R.L. at Work Graduation!
In our final session you’ll put your newly gained skills into action through a networking event connecting you to a variety of companies, organizations and individuals. Continue to put your skills to practice in mock interviews. To close out the program, we invite families to join us we celebrate your success as the inaugural graduating class of the G.I.R.L. at Work program.  (G.I.R.L. at Work participants will help plan the details of the event.) You’ll finish G.I.R.L. at Work with valuable knowledge, skills, a broader network of support, and a gift to commemorate your experience!
