Brownie Troop 4951 formed at Oyler Elementary in Cincinnati in fall 2023 when 2nd-3rd grade girls came together. Two parents and one Oyler staff member stepped up to be troop leaders, with support from Girl Scout staff member Cheryl Shrider and a University of Cincinnati student volunteer.
The troop earned 11 badges throughout their first year. For cookie season, they set a goal of selling 655 packages to raise the money to purchase each girl’s 11 badges, host an end of year ceremony, and open a troop bank account. The girls made a video introducing themselves to their neighborhood, selling 650 packages. Five packages short of their goal, a phone call to Girl Scouts of Western Ohio CEO, Aimée Sproles, led the girls to find a buyer for the last five packages to reach their goal.
At their court of awards, the girls received their Girl Scout Brownie sashes with their insignia, troop number, and the badges and patches they earned through the year.
Troop 4951 ended their first year being selected to attend Troop Adventure Camp (TAC) through the donor-funded Camp for Every Girl initiative.
"TAC was an experience I know the girls and I will cherish for many years to come." -Mrs. Johnson | Troop Leader
For the upcoming year, the girls want to earn more badges, such as Celebrating Community, Hike, Create & Innovate, Think like an Engineer, Senses, and Art & Design.
